Enfermedad de graves, signos, síntomas, diagnóstico y tratamiento
Resumen
La enfermedad de Graves es un trastorno autoinmune que se presenta con hipertiroidismo, bocio, enfermedad ocular orbitaria y, en ocasiones, mixedema localizado. La característica principal de la enfermedad de Graves es el hipertiroidismo, que afecta a casi todos los pacientes y está causado por anticuerpos que activan los receptores de la hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH). Estos anticuerpos estimulan la producción y liberación de hormona tiroidea, lo que provoca el crecimiento de la tiroides y el desarrollo de un bocio difuso. La presencia de estos anticuerpos en la sangre y la presencia de enfermedad ocular tiroidea ayudan a distinguir la enfermedad de Graves de otras causas de hipertiroidismo.
Este artículo proporciona una descripción general de las opciones de tratamiento para el hipertiroidismo de Graves en adultos, la patogénesis de la enfermedad de Graves, las manifestaciones clínicas y el diagnóstico del hipertiroidismo.
