Epidemiología global de las infecciones del tracto urinario por Escherichia Coli

Resumen


Las infecciones del tracto urinario (ITU) se consideran una de las patologias bacterianas más comunes, y Escherichia coli es el principal patógeno responsable. Estas infecciones afectan significativamente la calidad de vida y representan un desafío importante para la salud pública a nivel mundial. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la epidemiología global de las ITU causadas por Escherichia coli, evaluando la prevalencia en diferentes contextos geográficos y demográficos, con el fin de identificar patrones y factores que influencian estas infecciones. Este trabajo se basó en una revisión de artículos publicados entre 2020 y 2024 que reportan datos sobre la prevalencia de ITU por E. coli. Los estudios seleccionados incluyeron diferentes tipos de diseño, como estudios transversales y retrospectivos, y abarcaron diversas poblaciones, incluyendo mujeres gestantes, niños y adultos diabéticos, entre otros. Los resultados de la revisión mostraron una considerable variabilidad en la prevalencia de ITU por E. coli. Los porcentajes más altos de infección por E. Coli se observaron en mujeres gestantes de Ecuador (91%) y en poblaciones mixtas de Perú (85%). En contraste, los porcentajes más bajos se reportan en adultos diabéticos de Arabia Saudita (17%) y en mujeres gestantes de Somalia (19%), estas diferencias resaltaron la influencia de factores geográficos y demográficos en la epidemiología de las ITU por E. coli. En conclusión la epidemiología de las ITU por Escherichia coli es compleja y muestra una significativa variabilidad según el contexto geográfico y demográfico.
